At Made by Google 2026, Google introduced the Pixel Watch 5. Externally it resembles last year’s model, but it brings several internal upgrades focused on smarter assistance and improved health tracking. The most notable changes, however, are in the software — particularly the new At a Glance surface and expanded on-device intelligence.
Hardware
The Pixel Watch 5 retains the domed Actua 360 display protected by custom 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It uses a 320 PPI AMOLED LTPO panel capable of very high peak brightness. Case thickness remains unchanged between the 41mm and 45mm sizes, and battery capacity rises slightly — by about 7–10 mAh — though estimated battery life stays similar: roughly 30 hours with always-on display on the smaller model and about 40 hours on the larger model.

Under the hood, the Pixel Watch 5 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated platform. This variant provides around a 12% uplift in CPU performance, RAM increases from 2 GB to 3 GB, and storage doubles to 64 GB. Combined with a dual-chip arrangement that includes an M55 co-processor, Google says the watch is about 20% faster for tasks like app launches and scrolling. In brief hands-on use, performance felt smooth, and the extra memory and storage enable more capable on-device AI features.
Google also introduced a second-generation Active Band made from hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber (HNBR) with a soft-touch coating, replacing the previous fluoroelastomer material for a different feel and finish.

Software
Gemini Intelligence powers a range of new features on the Pixel Watch 5. Proactive Suggestions (formerly Magic Cue) surface contextual one-tap replies and actions in Google Messages and notifications. For example, if someone requests a phone number or location, you can send that information directly from the watch. The phone helps generate the insight, which is then bridged to the watch for quick responses.
Smart replies now show three options instead of a single suggested response, and replies appear faster thanks to optimizations. The watch also displays task automation updates directly on the watch face, so you can start a task on your phone and monitor or confirm progress from the wrist.

The Gemini app on Wear OS gains Neural Expressive and Personal Intelligence integrations, allowing the watch to draw on Gmail, Calendar, Keep and other apps to answer questions or summarize information from your messages and lists. It can reference prior chat history for context, and the raise-to-talk gesture is no longer limited to the watch face, making voice interactions more convenient across the system.
Offline Gemini commands run on-device when you don’t have a phone or network available. These commands cover practical tasks such as setting timers and alarms, adjusting settings like brightness or Do Not Disturb, controlling music playback, opening apps, and starting workouts without a connection.

A major UI addition is the new At a Glance surface positioned at the bottom of the watch face. While it shares a name with the Pixel Launcher feature on phones, this implementation is tailored for wearables: it shows live, glanceable content such as timers, alarms, workouts, music, flight details, boarding passes, and navigation updates. The At a Glance area curves up from the bottom of the face to give a richer preview than the previous small icon, making frequently used information quicker to read and act on.

One-handed gestures improve hands-free control: double-tap expands content and an outward wrist flick dismisses it, allowing fast interaction when your other hand is occupied. Google also added two new watch faces (Weave and Chronograph) and 11 new complication styles that use their own color schemes rather than relying solely on Dynamic Color, making information easier to differentiate at a glance.

Generative UI watch faces let you create unique face designs by selecting categories like Fuzzy, Textile, Nature, or Painted. A generative process creates custom number sets and visuals for a more personalized look.
Health
Health improvements are a major focus of the Pixel Watch 5. GPS and mapping are now up to twice as accurate in challenging environments such as dense urban areas and trails, thanks to adjustments for atmospheric effects, satellite clock drift, and multipath reflections from tall structures. Combined with dual-frequency GPS, Google claims this level of accuracy rivals or exceeds some high-end competitors.
The watch enhances strength and HIIT workout experiences with guided, step-by-step instruction, rest timers, audio cues, and automatic weight and rep tracking. A forthcoming Workout Builder and new Key Metrics view will make it easier to follow routines and analyze performance after a session.
Sleep and recovery features include Bedtime Automations that can pause audio and notifications, a new minimal bedtime face, and Smart Wake Alarms that vibrate at an optimal time within a set window. Morning Brief has been updated with refined readiness levels, improved sleep metrics, and enhanced weather reporting.

Google groups monitoring features under the Health Guardian label; existing capabilities include irregular rhythm detection, high and low heart rate alerts, and loss of pulse notifications. New additions vary by region: in the EU, Breathing Emergency Detection uses an on-device AI model with heart rate, accelerometer, and barometer data to detect sustained drops in oxygen saturation and can alert the user and emergency services for events like choking or severe respiratory distress.
Additional health features include month-long trend tracking for blood pressure and insulin resistance patterns using the watch’s sensors and machine learning to surface changes before they strain the heart; this capability is expected to roll out in September. Sleep breathing quality is now tracked minute-by-minute via blood oxygen levels, and sleep stage detection has improved in accuracy.
Pricing for the Pixel Watch 5 starts at $399 for the 41mm model (a $50 increase over its predecessor) and $429 for the 45mm model (a $30 increase). Models with LTE connectivity cost an additional $100.
