YouTube Music iPhone Problems Fixed, Google Confirms

If you’ve noticed playback problems with YouTube Music on your iPhone over the past few days, you’re not alone. Many users reported issues that affected basic controls and integrations, but Google has confirmed a fix and released an update to address the trouble.

Earlier this week, users began experiencing a range of malfunctions in the YouTube Music iPhone app. Common complaints included interrupted continuous playback, inability to skip or jump between tracks, and problems using the “Play Next” function. Some users also reported seeing a blank miniplayer, which made it difficult to control music while using other apps. In addition, integrations that many rely on—such as CarPlay, Siri commands, and Bluetooth control—were disrupted, preventing hands-free or in-car use.

Google acknowledged these issues in its support channels and provided a concise summary of the main symptoms:

  • Playback failures, including interrupted continuous playback and skipping/jumping errors.
  • A blank miniplayer that did not display controls or track information.
  • Problems with CarPlay, Siri, and Bluetooth that affected remote control and voice commands.

According to Google’s update, a new version of the YouTube Music app for iPhone resolves these problems. The company stated on May 28 that installing the latest app version corrects the playback and integration issues many users experienced. The update, version 9.21, is now available in the App Store for iPhone users.

If you experienced any of the symptoms above, updating to the newest version should restore normal functionality. To update, open the App Store on your iPhone, navigate to your account’s Updates section, and install the update for YouTube Music if it’s listed. If automatic updates are enabled on your device, the app may already be updated to the fixed version.

For users who continue to see issues after updating, a few troubleshooting steps can help:

  • Force-quit the YouTube Music app and relaunch it to clear temporary glitches.
  • Restart your iPhone to refresh system services and Bluetooth connections.
  • Check Bluetooth and CarPlay connections in Settings to ensure devices are paired and recognized.
  • If CarPlay still misbehaves, try disconnecting and reconnecting the vehicle or accessory, or restart the car’s infotainment system.
  • Verify Siri settings and permissions for the YouTube Music app under Settings > Siri & Search, ensuring voice commands are allowed.

While the most recent update addresses the reported problems, keeping your apps and iOS version up to date remains important to prevent similar issues. App updates often include bug fixes, performance improvements, and compatibility changes that help the app work smoothly with the latest iPhone system software and vehicle integrations.
