The Google Home app has become the primary way most people manage Nest products, but a significant outage is currently disrupting access for users who still rely on the legacy Nest app. If you haven’t migrated your devices yet or prefer the older app’s interface, you may be encountering connection errors that prevent normal use.
Over the last several years Google has steadily integrated Nest functionality into the Google Home app. Today, the majority of Nest devices are supported inside Google Home, and Google has added tools to simplify moving older Nest hardware into the unified app. That transition has reduced the need for the separate Nest app for most households, but a portion of users still maintain and access devices through the legacy Nest application.

At present, many Nest app users report being unable to connect. Community posts and outage trackers indicate the Nest app is returning an error message that reads: “There was a problem connecting to the Nest service. Try again in a few minutes.” The problem appears across platforms, affecting both iOS and Android versions of the Nest app, and users say it has persisted for several hours in some cases.
Users have been sharing their experiences in multiple places online, including Reddit threads dedicated to Nest and smart home troubleshooting. Outage monitoring services such as DownDetector are also showing increased reports related to Nest services, reflecting a broadening impact rather than an isolated incident on a single device or network.
Despite these user reports, the official Nest status dashboard is not currently listing any service interruptions. Because status pages sometimes lag behind real-time user reports, the absence of an official notice does not necessarily mean the problem is not real for affected customers. Google has not posted an official acknowledgement or timeline for a fix at the time of writing.
If you rely on the Nest app, consider these immediate steps to reduce disruption: check your internet connection, restart the Nest app, confirm that the app is up to date in the App Store or Google Play Store, and try signing out and back in to refresh the connection. For users who have already migrated devices to Google Home, the unified app may continue operating normally; moving supported devices to Google Home remains the recommended path for long-term management.
We are monitoring reports and will update this story when Google provides an official statement or the Nest status dashboard reflects any changes. In the meantime, affected users can follow community threads for real-time reports and possible workarounds shared by other Nest owners.
