With the final planned release of the Android 17 Beta arriving last week, Google has already begun the next phase: Android 17 QPR1 Beta 1. This new beta continues the incremental updates that make up the September Feature Drop cadence, delivering stability fixes and targeted resolutions for issues discovered during the earlier Android 17 Beta cycle.
Android 17 QPR1 Beta 1 focuses on addressing several technical problems that affect printing, terminal stability, audio processing for voice communication, and audio output on certain devices using the AIDL audio HAL. These fixes are intended to improve reliability for developers and users participating in the beta program, and to reduce crashes and degraded media experiences across affected apps and system services.
Key fixes included in this beta:
- Fixed a crash in the Default Print Service that could occur during low-ink conditions and prevented users from completing print jobs. (Issue #487545419)
- Resolved an Application Not Responding (ANR) condition triggered by the Terminal app, which in some cases caused the app and device to become unresponsive. (Issue #497465940)
- Addressed a hardware audio processing issue on the voice communication path that led to distortion and phase cancellation in VoIP applications, improving voice call and conferencing quality. (Issue #494843726)
- Fixed a problem where direct audio output could fail to open on devices using the AIDL audio HAL when playing audio streams longer than five seconds, which affected prolonged media playback. (Issue #372064012)
At a glance, there are no obvious user-facing feature changes in this release; the focus is primarily on behind-the-scenes stability and bug fixes. Participants in the beta should notice fewer crashes and improved behavior in the areas outlined above, particularly for printing, terminal use, VoIP apps, and longer audio streams on AIDL audio HAL implementations.
If you are running a Pixel device and want to report issues or provide feedback, you can use the Android Beta Feedback tools built into the system. Open the Android Beta Feedback entry from the app drawer or Quick Settings to file bugs directly to the Google issue tracker. The Android Beta community on Reddit also serves as a place for discussion and to share experiences with other beta testers.

Android 17 QPR1 Beta 1 system images are available for a wide range of Pixel hardware and for the Android Emulator. Supported devices include Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a, Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold, as well as the Android Emulator images for developers.
Officially, Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro users will not receive this OTA update. Those devices are reaching their End of Life under Google’s update policy, and the Android 17 QPR1 beta series will be the final set of beta releases for those models. If you own one of those devices, be aware that future QPR or feature updates may not be available.
Joining the beta is straightforward for eligible devices: enroll through the Android Beta Program to receive over-the-air updates on-device. Enrolling provides a direct path to install the beta build and to submit feedback and bug reports via the in-device feedback tools. As always with beta software, back up important data before installing, and expect that some apps or features may behave differently compared to stable releases.
This first QPR1 beta continues the iterative approach Google uses to refine Android releases ahead of broader distribution. It prioritizes fixes that reduce crashes and improve media and communication reliability, helping developers and early adopters validate their apps and workflows before the wider rollout.
