Gemini App Launches Personal Intelligence Feature Worldwide

After the US launch, Google is expanding Personal Intelligence to Gemini users around the world (excluding Europe).

Personal Intelligence enables Gemini to draw on your own content — including text, photos, and videos stored across Google services such as Gmail, Calendar, Drive and other Workspace apps, Google Photos, YouTube, Search, Maps, and additional first-party apps — to deliver responses tailored to you. Instead of asking you to provide context each time, Gemini can reference your relevant items and preferences to make suggestions and produce answers that feel more personal and useful.

Practical examples highlight how this capability can help in everyday scenarios:

Tailored shopping recommendations: Rather than showing generic product lists, Gemini can suggest items that match your recent purchases, preferred brands, and personal style. For example, if you recently bought gold-toned shoes, it can prioritize bags with complementary hardware and finishes, helping you find options that fit your aesthetic without manually describing every detail.

Simplified troubleshooting: When a device has an issue and you can’t remember the exact model, Personal Intelligence can check your purchase receipts and related records to identify the device. It can then offer step-by-step troubleshooting that’s appropriate for that specific model — from basic power cycling to model-specific factory reset instructions — saving time and avoiding guesswork.

Efficient navigation of tight schedules: If you have a short layover and need a quick meal, Gemini can combine your food preferences with live information about your arrival and departure gates, estimated walking times between them, and how long you have before boarding. This produces realistic, time-aware recommendations that fit your schedule.

Custom travel itineraries: Instead of generic “top 10” lists, get suggestions that reflect your actual interests and past favorites. If you’re visiting a city like Chicago, Gemini can highlight neighborhoods, cafes, and lesser-known attractions aligned with the kinds of places you enjoy, enabling a more personalized experience while traveling.

Discovering new hobbies and interests: Personal Intelligence can surface activities and hobbies you might enjoy based on patterns in your content. For instance, if you frequently read poetry and spend time in nature, it might suggest creative pursuits that combine both interests, opening up new possibilities you may not have considered.

Privacy and control are central to this feature. Personal Intelligence is explicitly opt-in, so you must give permission for Gemini to access specific apps and data sources. You can select which Google products Gemini may read from at any time. Once enabled, the feature will be active by default for prompts, but you can turn it off for any conversation using a toggle in the Tools menu. This gives you immediate control over when your personal content is used to shape responses.

The worldwide rollout announced today excludes the EEA, Switzerland, and the UK. Access will arrive first for Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers, while free users will receive the capability over the next few weeks.

As this capability becomes more widely available, expect it to be integrated into typical workflows where personal context makes interactions faster and more relevant — shopping, travel planning, troubleshooting, and discovering content or activities. Because it uses only Google’s first-party data sources you permit, users who prioritize convenience and personalization can opt in, while others can maintain a more limited or manual experience.
