Following recent updates, a number of Google Pixel owners have reported that their phones are entering bootloops. Google has acknowledged the reports and says it is “working to identify a fix.”
Over the past two weeks, several Pixel users have described devices that become unusable after updating, commonly becoming stuck at the initial boot screen with the “G” logo. While this problem does not appear to affect every Pixel device, the volume of reports across models and software versions suggests a regression in a recent build that can render phones unbootable for some users.
User reports have appeared on Google’s Issue Tracker and on Reddit, with accounts affecting a wide range of devices. Reports mention newer models such as the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro XL as well as older phones including the Pixel 6. Other affected models named by users include Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 7 Pro and various other Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 series handsets. These individual reports point to a pattern rather than a single isolated incident.
Many users point to the March 2026 update as the likely trigger, although Google has not publicly confirmed a specific update or single root cause. At this stage, it appears to be a software-related issue present in certain builds or configurations rather than a hardware-wide failure. That said, the symptom—bootlooping immediately after power-on—leaves the device unusable until the issue is resolved.
Typical remedies for software-caused boot problems include booting into recovery mode and performing a factory reset or re-flashing software, but several users report that recovery mode itself is sometimes affected by the same bootloop behavior. Where recovery is accessible, a factory reset can restore a working system, but it will erase user data. That is why users experiencing any signs of a failing boot should avoid unnecessary actions that could increase the risk of data loss and should prioritize backing up data when possible before applying updates.
Google has responded directly on its Issue Tracker, noting that teams are “actively investigating and working on a resolution.” The company has asked affected users to submit bug reports to help diagnose and reproduce the issue. In addition to the Issue Tracker, Google representatives have been participating in Reddit threads to offer assistance and guide users toward support options.
If your Pixel is stuck in a bootloop, recommended steps are:
- Try to power the device off and boot into recovery mode to see if you can access recovery options or perform a safe-mode boot.
- If recovery is accessible and you have a recent backup, consider a factory reset to restore the phone to a known-good state. Be aware this erases local data.
- Contact Google support or the retailer where you purchased the device. If your phone is under warranty, professional repair or replacement may be available.
- Submit a detailed bug report through the appropriate channels (Issue Tracker or device feedback tools) including build number, model, and precise symptoms—this helps engineers reproduce and prioritize fixes.
- Avoid attempting unofficial software flashing or unverified repair steps unless you are experienced, as these can void warranty or worsen the issue.
Some users have reported difficulty getting timely help from customer service, while others say Google support representatives have been responsive and proactive in guiding next steps. If you are impacted, keep documentation of your communications and any error messages or behaviors you observe—this information helps support teams and engineers diagnose the problem more quickly.
For now, Google is investigating and working on a fix that should be delivered in an upcoming update. We will update this article when Google provides more detail or when an official patch is issued. If your Pixel has been affected, consider sharing your experience in comments or in the official issue tracker to assist with the broader troubleshooting effort.
Thanks Maksym!
