After expanding from two-day delivery to same-day service, Amazon is rolling out new, faster delivery options for eligible customers: 1-hour and 3-hour delivery windows. These faster options are available for an additional fee and depend on local availability, meaning which service you can use will vary by location.
Amazon announced that more than 90,000 products are now offered with these expedited delivery options. The eligible selection covers a broad range of everyday needs, including pantry staples, cleaning supplies, health and beauty products, over-the-counter medications, and a variety of popular categories like electronics, toys, clothing and accessories, and home and garden items.
The new rapid-delivery windows are available to shoppers whether they subscribe to Prime or not, but there is an extra charge to use the service. Pricing, as listed by Amazon, is:
- 1-hour delivery: $9.99 for Prime members, $19.99 for non-Prime shoppers
- 3-hour delivery: $4.99 for Prime members, $14.99 for non-Prime shoppers
These fees make Amazon’s option competitive with existing on-demand delivery services and supermarket delivery tiers. While actual value will vary by order size and local alternatives, the pricing suggests Amazon is positioning this service as a direct competitor to similar offerings from other retailers that provide express same-day options at comparable costs.
To help users identify qualifying items, Amazon offers a dedicated storefront that highlights which products are available with 1-hour and 3-hour shipping. Availability is determined by local fulfillment capabilities and the inventory at nearby facilities, so the exact selection will differ from one address to another.
Geographic reach for the two speeds is distinct: Amazon says 1-hour delivery focuses on major metropolitan areas, such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, D.C., along with some smaller cities. The company notes this option is available across hundreds of cities and towns. The 3-hour window has a wider footprint and is available in over 2,000 cities and towns. If no fast-delivery items are offered at your address, the site will indicate that 3-hour delivery is currently unavailable.
For many shoppers, the new 1-hour and 3-hour delivery choices will be a convenient way to get urgent or last-minute items without leaving home. These options can be especially useful for families, individuals managing busy schedules, or anyone needing an item quickly—whether it’s a household essential, an over-the-counter remedy, or a replacement part for a device. As always, shoppers should weigh the added fee against the convenience and the value of their order to determine when expedited service makes sense.
Amazon’s continuing expansion of faster delivery tiers reflects the company’s ongoing emphasis on logistics and customer convenience. By adding even shorter delivery windows to its suite of shipping options, Amazon aims to meet growing consumer demand for immediacy while leveraging its fulfillment network to make those choices widely available where local operations support them.
